Workshop Essentials

We will focus on 3 basic aspects that will dramatically improve your work:

1. Use of value and color to create the impression of light and achieve natural harmony in your paintings.

2. Compositional strategies to build a strong, expressive design.

3. Use of linear and aerial perspective to create the illusion of volume and depth

For All Levels & Mediums

Students will use the medium of their choice including oil, acrylics, pastels, and watercolors. Beginners will receive especial attention in the use of materials and technique. Intermediate and advanced students will focus on creating more simplified and effective works through the right use of color and composition.

Loose and Fresh

Most of the time students will work en plein air, where paintings are conceived to be accomplished within one session. The goal will be to capture the essence of landscapes and townscapes in a loose, fresh approach. We will also learn to gather information to work later in the studio with sketches and photo references.

Over 20 Years of Music & Art on the Amalfi Coast

Founded in 1995, the   Amalfi Coast Music & Arts Festival is produced by the Center of Musical Studies of Washington, D.C. in conjunction with Artis International of Naples, Italy. The festival is based in the town of Maiori, one of the jewels of the Amalfi Coast. In addition to its wide-range of Institute offerings in music and art, the Festival features a month of concerts each summer throughout the magnificent area of the Amalfi Coast, in the area, including the excavations of Pompeii, the world-famous vistas of Ravello, where Wagner composed Parisfal, the incomparable Greek temples at Paestum, the magical isle of Capri, and more.

Special program for spouses and friends

A special program for guests provides an unparalleled opportunity in cultural tourism. Guests are welcomed as part of the festival community and are afforded a unique backstage experience. They are invited to attend rehearsals, master classes, and pre-concert lectures. They may take advantage of the many educational offerings at the festival, such as art courses, Italian language classes, cooking lessons, and excursions to the area's monuments and cultural sites, such as the excavations of Pompeii, the isle of Capri, and the delightful seaside towns that have made this region famous -- Positano, Ravello, Sorrento, Amalfi, and others.

"Our vision is of a community of artists learning from each other and creating wonder together, inspired and enriched by the tradition of beauty in all things Italian."
